The Essentials

Three Things Every Wearer Should Know

Master these fundamentals and every fragrance decision after becomes easier.

Understanding Notes

Every scent unfolds in three layers — top notes open bright and fleeting, heart notes carry the character, and base notes anchor the trail for hours. Learn to name each and you can predict how any bottle will wear.

How to Apply & Layer

Spray onto warm pulse points, never rub, and build depth by layering a matching oil beneath your spray. The right technique makes even an affordable EDT feel richer and more refined.

Storing for Longevity

Heat and light are a perfume's worst enemies. Keep bottles cool, dark and sealed and your fragrances stay true for years — essential in the UAE climate.

How to Choose the Right Perfume for You

Your signature scent should reflect your personality, not just the latest release. Start by identifying the families you gravitate toward, then test on skin rather than paper — body chemistry changes everything. Give a fragrance a full day to develop before you judge it, and trust the notes that make you feel most like yourself.

Reading Ingredient Lists & Labels

The label tells you more than a price. EDP, EDT and Extrait signal concentration and staying power; the batch code confirms freshness; and the notes pyramid on the box previews the journey ahead. Knowing how to decode a label is the surest way to shop like an insider — and to verify you are holding the genuine article.

Every product we sell is 100% authentic with fully verified sourcing, so what is printed on the box is exactly what is inside.

Make Your Scent Last Longer

Simple, proven techniques to stretch every spray further — especially in the Gulf heat.

01

Moisturise First

Fragrance clings to hydrated skin. Apply an unscented lotion before you spray and the scent lasts noticeably longer.

02

Target Pulse Points

Wrists, neck, behind the ears and inner elbows radiate heat, gently diffusing your fragrance through the day.

03

Never Rub Your Wrists

Rubbing crushes the top notes and speeds evaporation. Spray, then let it dry down undisturbed.

04

Layer With Oils

A matching attar or perfume oil beneath your spray builds a longer-lasting, more personal base.

05

Choose the Right Concentration

Reach for an EDP or Extrait when you need all-day power; save lighter EDTs for close, casual wear.

06

Spray Onto Clothing Too

Fabric holds scent far longer than skin — a light mist on a scarf or collar carries your fragrance all evening.

Myth-Busting

Fragrance Myths, Busted

The advice that gets repeated everywhere — and what is actually true.

"Pricier means better"

Not true. Houses like Lattafa, Armaf and Rasasi rival far costlier designers on quality and performance. Value has nothing to do with authenticity.

"You should smell your own perfume all day"

Also false. Nose fatigue means you stop noticing your scent long before others do. Trust the notes, not your own nose, after the first hour.

"Perfume expires quickly"

Stored well — cool, dark and sealed — most fragrances stay beautiful for years. Poor storage, not age, is what ruins a bottle.

Common Scent Questions

Fragrance, Answered

What is the difference between top, heart and base notes?
Top notes are what you smell in the first few minutes — usually light and fresh. Heart notes emerge after 15–30 minutes and form the fragrance's main character. Base notes appear as it dries down and can last for hours, giving the scent its depth and lasting trail.
How many sprays of perfume should I use?
For most EDPs, three to four sprays on pulse points is plenty. Stronger Extraits and rich ouds need less, while lighter EDTs can take a little more. In the UAE heat, fragrances project more, so start conservatively and build up.
Why does the same perfume smell different on other people?
Skin chemistry, pH, hydration and even diet subtly change how notes develop. That is why we always recommend testing a fragrance on your own skin and giving it time to settle before deciding.
Are attars and perfume oils stronger than sprays?
Generally yes. Attars and perfume oils are highly concentrated and alcohol-free, so they sit close to the skin and last a very long time. They are ideal for layering under a spray or for a subtle, personal signature.
How do I know a perfume is authentic?
Check the batch code, packaging quality and the consistency of the scent. At The Fragrance Secrets every product is 100% authentic with fully verified sourcing — and our WhatsApp team, available 10am to 7pm, is happy to confirm any detail before you buy.
